TraFi Aviation - Finnish Civil Aviation Authority About us

TraFi Aviation - knowledge and safety

As of 1 January 2010, civil aviation regulatory issues in Finland will be handled by the Aviation Sector of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (TraFi).

TraFi Aviation is a part of the Transport Safety Agency, which is also in charge of regulatory issues in the fields of road traffic, railways and maritime safety.

The Finnish Civil Aviation Authority, established in 2006, will now become history. All of its functions will be transferred to TraFi Aviation.

The costs for TraFi Aviation Sector’s operations are covered by a tax-like air transport inspection fee, which is imposed upon airport operators to enhance flight safety and ensure an efficient oversight of aviation. Part of the funding comes from fees collected for its services.

The Finnish air navigation system and state airports are operated by Finavia Ltd, a state-owned company which was incorporated at the turn of the year 2009/2010.

Aviation in Finland is governed by the Finnish Aviation Act, which also regulates the operation of Finnish aircraft abroad.
