Regulatory functions related to air navigation services
Regulatory functions related to air navigation servicesThe Finnish civil aviation authority conducts audits of airports and air navigation services units to ensure that their equipment and facilities are serviceable and the operations properly organised. Airport safety management systems are also audited. The introduction of new systems, procedures, equipment and facilities at airports or air navigation services units requires an approval from the civil aviation authority’s Aerodromes and Air Navigation Services Department. The Department issues aerodrome construction permits and operating permits, as well as separate approvals for IFR or night VFR operations. The civil aviation authority must also be notified before establishing a light aviation aerodrome.
